Full Project Title: Medtech Sensor Manufacturing for the Industry 4.0

Project Overview

The Medtech Sensor Manufacturing for the Industry 4.0 project focused on advancing micro-sensor device production for healthcare applications. By introducing new fixture designs and process improvements, the project targeted higher manufacturing quality, reliability, and readiness for commercial adoption.

Objectives

– Improve process yield and reproducibility for micro-sensor assembly.
– Enable transition from R&D manufacturing to a qualified, commercial-grade environment.
– Prepare the process for larger-scale production and regulatory studies.

Key Achievements

  • Developed and validated a template-based wire splitting fixture to support repeatable and precise sensor assembly.
  • Advanced glueing and encapsulation solutions, with ongoing work to test semi-automated piezo dosing for improved consistency.
  • Implemented process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (pFMEA) to streamline design refinement and risk mitigation.
  • Established procedures for component handling to protect critical sensor layers and improve assembly ergonomics.
  • Prepared documents and procedures for commercial transfer and scale-up.

Status and Next Steps

Prototypes and new tooling have passed initial laboratory validation and are in the process of manufacturing handover. The next stage includes completing semi-automated glueing trials, confirming compatibility with selected adhesives, and supporting pilot-scale production runs under qualified manufacturing conditions.
Upcoming milestones include the final evaluation of the integrated fixture and the demonstration of improved assembly steps.
